Homemade pesto recipe with omega-3

| SEP 21, 2017

Following four years of study with clinical practice at the University of Greenwich and the UK College of Nutritional Health (BCNH), Mary van der Westhuizen qualified as a Nutritional Therapist. She now runs a private practice in London, helping clients with a range of health concerns. She's also a mum of four lovely children and we were pleased to hear they all start their day with our Action Heroes  Mary appreciates, however, that not every child will greedily devour neat fish oil. She's created the perfect pesto recipe to mix our oil into, the kids will never know!

Ingredients

Blitz all of the following in a food processor:

  • 50g pine nuts
  • 50g grated parmesan
  • Big handful of basil
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • A few tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (add at the end so you can stop when you get to your preferred consistency)
  • 1ml of Action Heroes per child (they'll never know it's there)

Experiment

Try experimenting with different ingredients to see what you and your children like best:

  • Substitute the basil in whole or part for lightly steamed spinach, kale or peas.
  • Toast the pine nuts for a richer taste.
  • Substitute pine nuts for pistachios.
  • Add a squirt of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
