Description

It’s estimated 75% of the UK population has low vitamin D levels. Supplementation is our only source from October to March. It’s important to know your level so you take the right amount. Too much can be very bad for our health but we need enough for good health.

Who Should Test

Everyone would benefit from knowing their vitamin D levels, even if it’s just to check the supplements are doing their job.

There are some groups of people who would particularly benefit:

• People with limited exposure to sunlight (that’s all of us in the UK then!).

• People who don’t go outside much through choice or health limitations.

• Vegetarians and vegans as food sourced vitamin D3 is only found in animal products.

• Over 50s due to slower vitamin D metabolic processing and decreased calcium absorption.

• People with darker skin tones which need longer in the sun to get enough vitamin D.

• Alcohol drinkers and smokers.

• People with medical conditions and certain medications (see FAQs for more detail).

Instructions

Important: read carefully when you receive the kit otherwise the sample could fail and you would need to buy a new kit.

Do this first thing in the morning before you eat anything.
Activate your kit online following the instructions inside the test kit (you can do this anytime before taking the test).
Do the test, following the instructions carefully. Download our 'how to guide' and watch our 'how to video' on how to use the lancets correctly.
Package it up and put it in the postbox. It's all prepaid.
Receive emails throughout to track progress.

Receive results normally around 10 days after receipt of the sample.

Great for those who can get blood out
To be honest, I didn’t think we would get a result after taking the test. I bought it as a present for my mum and we made sure we followed all the instructions to the T. The kit came with 3 lancets (in case 1 was not enough). Even 3 weren’t enough! The lancet’s point is so fine that the hole made isn’t enough to make the blood come out. My mum is on a daily dose of Aspirin and even that didn’t help. We weren’t getting anywhere and in the end, we had to use a pin to take the test. Even then, it was really difficult to make sure that all 6 sections on the blood collection sample were filled with blood. You can’t just touch the card, the drop of blood has to easily drop off your finger on the particular area. I even think that 3 stars is way too generous.
After receiving the result, I also don’t know what to do next and how to improve the level of Vit D as it’s been regularly taken for years but the test showed low levels of it.

Excellent fast experience
Easy to do and the results came really quickly afterwards. Drawing the blood can be a bit tricky but other than that I am pleased with the kit and service. Very informative

Difficult to do
I followed all the directions but found the test really difficult to do. I just couldn’t get enough blood, even though I used all the lancets. Wouldn’t use again. Will need to go to GP to do a proper test.

Vitamin D Test Kit
The kit had clear instructions and the report came through quickly. However I found it difficult to produce the bloods drops in the quantity needed. I suspect my result (0 nmol/l) was because I was not able to produce enough blood however the report didn't suggest this might be the case and was therefore not helpful at all.
