FAQs
What is the % mix of Type I and Type 3 in your collagen?
~95% Type 1 and ~5% Type 3
What is the optimal daily dose for Fundamental?
To help maintain daily strength in your body, we recommend about 10g a day. That’s one scoop with our bespoke scooper (or four rounded teaspoons). We’ve put 10 grams on the label for Fundamental to offer a high-impact dose that’s still affordable for regular use.
How much collagen you take will depend on your reason for taking it, and what fits your routine and your budget.
If you're looking to support post-exercise recovery or wound healing, the science suggests that higher doses of around 20 to 30g a day may be beneficial. Adjust to suit your body, your routine, and your budget. Don’t overthink it. Your body’s smart. Whatever it doesn’t need, it gets rid of. You’ll figure out what works best for you.
You can learn more about how to take collagen powder effectively in our expert guide.
Can I mix Fundamental into food and drink?
Fundamental is totally tasteless and heat-resistant, so you can stir into coffee, tea, porridge, smoothies, or any drink you like. One scoop with our bespoke scooper (or four rounded teaspoons) gives you 10g of easily absorbed bovine collagen.
What is the % breakdown of ingredients in Fundamental?
Fundamental is made of:
92% hydrolysed bovine collagen peptides (grass-fed)
8% water (residual moisture content)
The water isn’t added. It’s just naturally retained during the drying process after hydrolysis. This is standard for collagen powders, and no, it doesn’t affect potency or quality.
How much protein does it contain per 10g?
Each 10g serving (about four heaped teaspoons) provides 9.2g of protein.
What are the origins of the Bovine?
We only use cattle raised in farms in Europe for our bovine collagen. Most of the time, that means grass-fed Swiss cattle. Depending on availability, we may also source from other high-welfare EU farms.
Are the cattle free range and are the cattle grass fed throughout the year?
Absolutely. Under Swiss law, it's mandatory, which is why we only source our collagen from EU suppliers. The cattle are raised primarily on outdoor pastures with plenty of space to roam and access to fresh grass, air, and water. In certain conditions, like bad weather, drought, or safety concerns, farmers may move them indoors to protect their welfare. In those cases, they may be fed indoors too.
By EU law, the cattle we source from graze on fresh grass during the summer and are fed hay in the winter. This applies to both Swiss and other EU herds we source from.
How do I choose between Fundamental and Skinful?
Both Fundamental (bovine) and Skinful (marine) are great options. Scientifically, there’s no clear data to suggest one is definitively better for certain people.
What we do know: both are rich in type I collagen, which supports skin. Fundamental also contains type III, which supports connective tissue, so it’s sometimes suggested for full-body strength and recovery.
Since Fundamental is made from cow hides and Skinful from fish, we recommend choosing what feels right for your body, taste, and values. Only you know what works for you.
What we do know: marine and bovine collagen are both rich in type I (great for skin). Bovine also contains type III, which supports connective tissue, so it’s sometimes suggested for full-body strength and recovery.
We’d say go with what feels right for your body, taste, and values.
Can I take it if I'm pregnant or during breastfeeding?
We don’t have any reason to believe Fundamental isn’t safe during pregnancy. But since collagen hasn’t been specifically studied in pregnancy, we’d always recommend checking with your GP if you’re unsure. Yes. It’s a great way to support your body while you’re busy growing another.
Can children take it?
Yes, but they probably don’t need it yet. Collagen loss doesn’t really kick in until our 30s.
Is it gluten free?
Yes. No gluten here.
Can I take it if I have a nut allergy?
Happy to report that Fundamental is free from nuts, dairy, gluten, soy, eggs, shellfish and any gross additives.
