Pure Omega-3 Fish Oil for Kids (Liquid)

Fish oil is a natural substance, so omega-3 levels (DHA, EPA and others like DPA) can vary slightly from batch to batch.

Every batch of Action Heroes is tested by IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) for purity and to make sure the label matches what’s inside. We’ve always published these reports on our website, and you can read them here.

Recently, 5 of the last 7 IFOS reports came back just below the values on our label. IFOS were confident in our oil and, as the differences were small, rounded up. But in the long term, this doesn't sit right with us. So, we’ve adjusted the stated values to reflect the minimum you can expect.

The oil itself hasn't changed. The formula is exactly the same. This is simply a more cautious way of reporting. Future batches may well exceed the new stated values (sod’s law). But we’d rather be honest and over-deliver than the other way round.

Action Heroes used to be labelled with the maximum omega-3 levels: 700mg total omega-3, with 500mg DHA and 100mg EPA. We did this so anyone concerned about getting too much of a nutrient could see the highest possible amount.

Because fish oil is natural, the exact levels can vary slightly from batch to batch (like any nutrient in food). To be more accurate, we now show the minimum amounts you can expect. The label now reads 630mg total omega-3, with 470mg DHA and 90mg EPA.

The oil itself has not changed. This is simply a more cautious and transparent way of reporting.

Nope. It's still the same pure, DHA-dominant, brain-growing oil with a drop of lemon to sweeten the deal for kids who aren't fans of fish. The only change is that we now report the minimum levels instead of the maximum, so we never risk overstating what's inside.

Each bottle of Action Heroes comes with a handy syringe that you plug into the bottle top. Just draw out 1ml and squirt it straight into your child's mouth or into food.

If you want to measure out 1ml with a regular teaspoon just pour a tiny amount – literally a drop.

No, you can just pour a tiny amount on to a spoon. It's not a medicine so it doesn't have to be exact. Wash them in hot, soapy water with the washing up. Swish soapy water in and out of them a few times to get rid of any residue, or they could smell a little fishy after a while.

We’ve created Action Heroes for kids from 6 months to 12 years old. Teenagers and adults over 12 can take it too (the DHA is especially good pregnant women!), but teenagers would benefit from more EPA and could switch to Life & Soul.

Put simply, it helps children’s brains and bodies develop. 

DHA omega-3 is a major component of our brain, eye tissue and skin. So much so that during pregnancy the body feeds the mother’s DHA to the baby, and breast milk has elevated levels. In fact, the amount of DHA in the brain increases by 30 times between the first 24 weeks and two years of life*.

But most children don’t get enough DHA in their food. And this matters.

Studies show a direct link between low levels of DHA and poor learning and behaviour. The 2012 Dolab** study found that DHA is ‘a safe and effective way to improve the reading and behaviour in healthy, but underperforming children in mainstream schools’. And an earlier study by the same researchers in Durham also found that increasing omega-3 in the diets of children between 5 and 12 significantly improved their reading, spelling and behaviour over three months.
