Change your habits, change your life
From hitting the gym to saving the pennies, we’ve all started January fired up with good intentions only to have slipped back into our lazy, spendthrift ways again by spring. Or perhaps even sooner! Studies show that 80% of us will abandon our New Year's resolutions by February 1st.
When our January promises fail we usually blame our lack of resolve. But what if we told you that transforming your life doesn’t have to involve sheer, brute willpower? Shifting your focus from your big, lofty goal to concentrate on the habits you need to get you there can be the difference between success and failure.
Step forward Better in 5, our simple, habit-changing plan with some seriously life-changing results. Created by Olympian turned performance and wellness coach, Leon Taylor, our five-step plan is completely free. We’ll be launching new material each week, including video and blog posts to help you on your journey.
"I’ve been running consistently now for months, thanks to the support from Leon and the Better in 5 Plan. The structure and mental approach has really helped make the habit stick, and now I actually look forward to my runs!”Melanie Lawson - founder and CEO of Bare Biology
It could make 2019 your healthiest year yet! Just ask Bare Biology founder, Melanie Lawson. Melanie has fully road-tested Leon’s plan and it’s taken her from exercise-avoider to regular runner in just a matter of months. As Melanie explains:
“With three kids and a business to run, I was finding it hard to make time to look after my physical fitness. I was also experiencing some depression and wanted to do something to help my mental health. I’ve tried various types of exercise in the past but nothing has really stuck. As a child I loved running and there’s so much evidence about how it helps not only depression but mental clarity and decision making. I’ve been running consistently now for months, thanks to the support from Leon and the Better in 5 Plan. The structure and mental approach has really helped make the habit stick, and now I actually look forward to my runs!”
With a half-marathon her first big goal, Melanie still has a way to go but you’ll hear all about her journey as you undertake your own transformation on the Better in 5 plan.
Meet your Better in 5 performance coach
Wouldn’t it be great to have your very own coach by your side, cheering you on and motivating you to achieve your goals? With Better in 5, you have...and he just happens to be an Olympian too.
Leon Taylor represented Great Britain at three Olympic Games and was the first British diver in over 44 years to win a silver medal, which he did at the Athens Olympics. This BBC sports commentator and mentor to diving sensation, Tom Daley, is now a performance and wellness coach, and he certainly knows his stuff when it comes to motivation.
Throughout the Better in 5 plan, Leon will offer solutions and tips to help you form the necessary habits to become the best you you can be. Over to Leon...
So Leon, why habits?
“You don’t think twice about brushing your teeth or showering in the morning because you do it automatically. But you can turn pretty much anything into a habit, including working out and eating well.”
"I want to ensure that people set achievable targets as only then will they be able to adopt good habits which will help them live a fuller and healthier lifestyle."Leon Taylor - performance and wellness coach
What is a habit?
“The definition of a habit is ‘a routine or practice performed regularly, or an automatic response to a specific situation or context.’ Habits are vital when it comes to achieving a goal because, while motivation will get you started, it’s habits that will keep you going long-term.
We’re all a sum of our habits. So every behaviour that we’ve adopted, both good and bad, has turned us into who we are at this current point in time. The good news is, developing better habits can be easy. It’s all about being able to start small and focusing in the right place at the right time. And I’m here to help you do just that.”
Tell us about the Better in 5 plan...
“I’m delighted to have created this plan alongside Bare Biology and I hope it will help people set new habits and work towards their personal goals. I want to ensure that people set achievable targets, as only then will they be able to adopt good habits which will help them live a fuller and healthier lifestyle. This is of particular importance to me, as my work on mental health and movement showcases the positive benefits regular movement can have on your mental health.”
